Samsung Galaxy F Series Introductions
The Samsung Galaxy S5, the HTC One M8, the LG G3, Sony’s Xperia Z2 and of course Apple’s iPhone 5s. These are the big name smartphones on the market in 2014 and the Galaxy S5 stands out for one reason in particular – and it’s not the heart rate monitor or fingerprint scanner. It is the plastic construction used by Samsung for the Galaxy S5 which marks it out against the more premium devices from HTC, Sony, Apple and LG. And so, Samsung is widely rumoured to be working on a more premium version of the Galaxy S5, pictures of which have leaked online in a series of photos over the last couple of weeks. Here we have put together everything we know about the Galaxy S5 Prime so far:
Galaxy S5 Prime or Galaxy F?
First things first, what will the name of this premium phone be?
We have seen reports of both names being referenced for smartphones with very similar specs, meaning that the Galaxy F moniker could be just an internal codename for the Galaxy S5 Prime. There are however other rumours to suggest that the Galaxy S5 Prime and the Galaxy F are two entirely different phones, which is only adding to the confusion. If we were to hazard a guess, we would suggest the Samsung will launch the Galaxy S5 Prime – given its that last year it launched the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Zoom and Galaxy S4 Mini. But then again, we could be completely wrong as most people reckon the Galaxy F name is the one Samsung is going for.
Galaxy F: Design
From the multiple leaked photos of the Galaxy F, the design of the premium phone does not look a whole lot different to the Galaxy S5.
The big difference is clearly the use of premium materials over the rather cheap-feeling and looking plastic construction Samsung phones are known for. The brushed metallic rear cover in the leaked press shots looks great, and a step-up from the faux-leather finish on the Galaxy S5. There is also a difference on the front of the device where Samsung appears to have slimmed down the bezels, meaning the phone should have the same dimensions as the S5 despite having a slightly larger screen.
Galaxy F: Screen
Speaking of which, the Galaxy F is set to have a 5.3in screen compared to the 5.1in screen on Galaxy S5 but the big difference will be a boost in resolution. The phone is reported to use a Quad HD display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 554 pixels per inch (ppi). Until now, the 5.5in QHD screen on LG’s G3 was the smartphone leader, but with a ever-so-slightly higher pixel density (554ppi vs 534ppi) Samsung could have a winner on its hands.
Galaxy F: Hardware
The Galaxy S5 already features some impressive internal hardware, but the Galaxy F is set to top it. The Galaxy F is reported to be among the first phones to feature Qualcomm’s 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 chip as well as 3GB of RAM – up from the Snapdragon 801 chip with 2GB of RAM on the Galaxy S5. There are also some reports suggesting the Galaxy F will come with the company’s own Exynos 5433 processor which again would be a first for the smartphone. In terms of graphics, the phone will likely feature either the Adreno 420 or Adreno 405 GPU depending on which report you believe, bout either way it will be an upgrade from the Adreno 330 GPU in the Galaxy S5
The cameras will remain the same as the Galaxy S5 (16 megapixel rear, 2 megapixel front) and the fingerprint sensor and heart-rate monitor will also remain.
Galaxy F: Software
With Google indicating a post-September consumer launch for Android L, it is unlikely Samsung will have time to tweak this for the Galaxy F. That means the Galaxy F will likely feature Android 4.4.3 or Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) when it launches later this year, though this will obviously be heavily skinned with Samsung’s own Touch Wiz interface.
Galaxy F: Release Date
June was the initially mooted date of launch for the Galaxy F, but this has come and gone, with some citing problems with production yield on the QHD displays as the delaying factor. However, while some are tipping a July release, we think that a September launch at the IFA trade show is much more likely, with Samsung already set to launch its Galaxy Note 4 at the show.
Galaxy F: Price
The Price of Samsung Galaxy F Series May be 72000 PKR, $720. Well, what did you expect?
