The popular Caribbean cricketer and West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has announced that he will be out of all forms of cricket for the next two to three months due to his back problem. To get rid of this injury, he is expected to undergo a surgery soon. Gayle disclosed his decision to the public after the Jamaica Tallawahs’ Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match against Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel. His team Tallawahs lost the game by 27 runs. Chris Gayle, had scored 30 runs in the game, and begun the Tallawahs’ chase of 145 quite smartly, thrashing 26 runs off Samuel Badree in the opening over. However, Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel’s,Dwayne Bravo made sure that Gayle’s onslaught did not last long and the Red Steel bowlers did not allow the opposition to go ahead. It is worthwhile to mention that Gayle is currently the leading run-getter in CPL with 430 runs at an impressive average of 61.42. He has also achieved same success in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Apart from the above, he also plays for Somerset in the NatWest T20 Blast.
Speaking after the game, the 35-year old sensational striker said, “I have a charity game on the 2nd, but after that I will be out of cricket for two to three months. I am going to do a surgery on my back. So I need some time for recovery. Maybe December, before I actually get back in cricket as well. You have got to wish me luck with that surgery and then I will be back strong. Who knows, we will see what happens.”

Gayle has been facing back problems since the 2015 World Cup and he had to even miss a match against UAE for it. In fact, he had played the quarter-final against New Zealand with the help of an injection. In case, it will not be possible for Gayle to play until December, West Indies are likely to miss him in the tri-series against Pakistan and Zimbabwe in August-September. This in turn will also affect West Indies’ bid for the 2016 Champions Trophy. Hopefully one will be able to see him in action as Gayle also has a contract in the Big Bash League for the Melbourne Renegades, which begins on December 18.
