Ashwin Goes for 22 Runs in His First Over

The following video shows the fall of wickets of 2012 champions West Indies against a team that qualified for its first ever main round of the ICC World T20. Afghanistan was simply outstanding on the day, and it seemed that the pressure of three straight lossess in their opening three games did not take their toll at all. Inzamam Ul Haq’s men were bery well the better side on the day, outlasting the undefeated West Indies and becoming the only team to do so from the Group Stage Round. The West Indies did manage to finish top of Group 1 though, which means they are sure to face either Australia or India in the semifinal stage.

The West Indians were never going to take the game lightly, because despite having already qualified for the semi-finals, any lapse in momentum and concentration cannot be afforded at this level. Their bowlers bowled outstandingly well on a pitch that was neutral in terms of both batting and bowling. The Afghanistan batsmen were restricted to a low total of 123 inside 20 overs, and from there on in anybody could have expected West Indies to emerge victors.

After the Afghanistan batsmen had been restricted to a low score of 123, every single person from the fans to the pundits was predicting and expecting the West Indies to bag another massive win. Surely a score of 123 against a batting side as deptful and world class as the West Indies was never going to be enough. But as things turned out, history was made at Nagpur today. Afghanistan crashed out of the tournament with their loss against England but they take home plenty of positives after dethroning the former champions.
